This May, the Mammoth High School Culinary Arts Program is turning the classroom into something much bigger: a series of fully student-run restaurants open to the public.
Welcome to the First Annual Pop-Up Restaurant Month, where culinary students take on their final exam—not with a written test, but by creating, launching, and operating a one-day-only restaurant from scratch.
A Real-World Final Exam

This isn’t just cooking—it’s entrepreneurship.
Students in the Mammoth Unified School District Culinary Arts Program are responsible for every aspect of their pop-up, including:
Concept development and menu creation
Recipe testing and food costing
Branding and restaurant identity
Website creation and marketing
Designing the dining experience and décor
Running front- and back-of-house operations
From the first idea to the last plate served, students are immersed in what it actually takes to open and run a restaurant.
Four Fridays. Four Restaurants. One Incredible Experience.
Each Friday in May, a new student concept comes to life—offering both dine-in (limited reservations) and takeout options so the community can participate.
May 1 — La Vida Dulce
A vibrant, sweet-forward concept featuring pastries and refreshing aguas frescas—perfect for a spring afternoon treat.

May 8 — Aionios
A journey to the Mediterranean with Greek-inspired cuisine, offering a curated dine-in experience alongside takeout options.

May 14 — The Iron Hoof Kitchen
A bold and hearty Chinese cuisine buffet, designed for both dine-in and takeout—come hungry.

May 22 — Soul in the Sierras
Comfort food at its finest with a soul food–inspired menu, bringing warmth and flavor to the Eastern Sierra.

More Than a Meal
Every pop-up is a chance to support local students while enjoying a thoughtfully crafted dining experience. All proceeds go directly back into the Culinary Arts Program, helping fund future learning opportunities, equipment, and program growth.
This initiative reflects a broader commitment by Mammoth Unified School District to provide hands-on, career-connected learning that prepares students for real-world success—whether in hospitality, business, or beyond.
Why It Matters

Programs like this do more than teach cooking—they build confidence, teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving skills. Students leave with practical experience that many don’t gain until much later in life.
And for the Mammoth community, it’s a chance to show up, support, and be part of something special.
Plan Your Visit
Mark your calendars, bring your appetite, and experience what these talented students have created.
Every Friday in May
Dine-in (limited reservations) + Takeout available
Because this isn’t just a school project—it’s the future of hospitality, served one plate at a time.
