Girls Snowboard Team Wins Third Place
The Mammoth High School Girls Snowboard team returned from the 2010 CA and NV State Championships with a banner (1st-3rd only) to hang in the gym for the first time in many years. Competing against 31 other high schools they took third in combined slalom and giant slalom.
What is significant is that the two schools that beat them are giant high school with more than 4000 students. Mammoth has ~300 students. Furthermore, the team score is made up of your team's top three finishers in each event. The big schools have 7 or 8 girls who qualify for Championships. So if a girl falls or DQs they have another who can contribute to the team score.
MHS took 3 girls to Championships. They all had to finish and finish well for the team to win and they did. Kendall Dawson led the team with a 12th place (out of more than 80 girls) in GS and a 13th or 14th in slalom. Her teammates Whitney Philbrook and Sara Cotter were right behind.
